Ecclesiastical, a proud sponsor of the 2016 Governor General’s “History Award for Excellence in Museums: History Alive!”

2017-01-17 Events

In support of the Canadian Museums Association (CMA) and for the 5th consecutive year, Ecclesiastical was the corporate sponsor of the Governor General’s “History Award for Excellence in Museums : History Alive!”

This award recognizes excellence and innovation in the public programming of museums and other heritage institutions. On November 28, His Excellency, the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, presented the 2016 award to Maison Saint-Gabriel, a museum and historic site in Pointe-Saint-Charles, Quebec.

The museum’s winning project, “The Canadian horse, a unique breed” celebrated the 350th anniversary of the first horses to arrive in New France (1665−2015). By capitalizing on the popularity of equestrian culture, the museum was able to create the project with minimal resources while also instilling a strong sense of pride in a Canadian breed whose continuation was in jeopardy. Staff sought out widespread community support to develop an array of experiential learning opportunities both inside and outside the museum resulting in thousands of visitors to the exhibition. Visitors were treated to carriage rides, a large civic parade (the “Grande Cavalcade”) and even a chance to deliver bread by horse-drawn carriage !

The awards ceremony at Rideau Hall was followed by the History Makers Gala Dinner held at The Canadian War Museum. Ecclesiastical was represented at both events by Jane Williamson, VP, Claims ; Colin Robertson, VP, Operations and Risk Control ; Rob Jordan, VP, Central and National Accounts ; and Joe McKeown, VP, Underwriting. Special guests at Ecclesiastical’s table included Ms Alexandra Badzak, Director & CEO, The Ottawa Art Gallery ; Mr David Loye, COO, Canadian Museum of History ; Mr Chris Hamel, SVP, National Public Entity Practice Leader, Marsh Canada ; and Mr Bob Fournier, Account Executive, PBL Insurance.

Ecclesiastical is proud to be the endorsed insurer of the Canadian Museums Association and we look forward to working with them in 2017. To learn more about the CMA, visit www.museums.ca
