Brandon, Manitoba church faces break-in and potential arson

"We were shocked to discover that our church was broken into. The office was ransacked and a computer was stolen. We were even more distraught when we realized that the offenders clearly intended to burn down the church. Automotive solvent was poured on the carpet and pews inside the sanctuary and office, rolled up pieces of paper were placed on the carpet and inside a baseboard heater with temperature raised to 30 degrees Celsius. Fortunately, the breaker tripped and the paper did not catch fire - if it had, the damages to the church would have been catastrophic.  A caring representative from Ecclesiastical guided us throughout the whole claims process. They contacted a knowledgeable contractor who advised removing the carpet and provided an estimate of the damages. Emergency cleanup allowed us to resume regular activities without any delays. We were provided with excellent risk control documents as a reference and protection guide and immediately held a meeting to discuss implementation of a business continuity plan and improved risk management. With these resources, we are now able to mitigate future criminal acts and will be better equipped should they happen. We will definitely spread the word to other churches in the area.
