Jordan Bruce: Flemingdon Park
Flemingdon Park Ministry, established in 1978, is an Anglican Church ministry serving the Flemingdon Park area in Toronto. The Ministry operates in an extraordinarily diverse neighbourhood, with a wide variety of cultural and religious backgrounds and over 90 languages spoken. The Ministry itself is located in a mall surrounded by government-subsidized housing and serves people facing immediate legal, housing and financial issues.
Foremost, the Ministry exists to provide care and comfort to those who have nowhere else to turn. In addition to the regular drop-in centre and twice-a-week food bank, they operate programs aimed at all age groups including after school programs, a ladies night, and a men's night. While I was at Flemingdon Park Ministry, I assisted with various data management issues and helped with intake on food bank days. Working with people who work tirelessly each day to assist others in meeting their most basic needs was a very enriching and rewarding experience.
